Though we sift through dozens of lookbooks daily, it’s rare that we come across a new line that’s both original and has covetable merch. But Suno is such a one. Designer Max Osterweis founded the label last year after a decade spent collecting textiles in Kenya. The resulting brightly patterned, clean-lined separates are each one-of-a-kind and are artisanally produced in the African nation. In fact, for spring Osterweis is only producing 1000 pieces of the twenty styles. Suno’s clashing, vintage-y prints feel very of-the-moment (see: Junya Watanabe Spring 2009), so much so that Opening Ceremony placed a sizeable order for both its New York and Los Angeles stores. The price range is a rather reasonable $160 to $600. If you’re staying away from the galleries this season, consider it original art on a budget.
